Released on One Little Indian in 1987, this spectacular single was the first most people living outside of Iceland got to hear of the dulcet tones of Björk.
Championed by John Peel and played virtually every week on The Chart Show, the song proved to be a big indie hit- reaching the coveted number one spot on Peel’s Festive 50.
An oft underrated band, The Sugarcubes went on to release several more singles and three albums before splitting in 1992, but they never quite reached the heights of Birthday again.
