Fresh from opening for The Stone Roses at Wembley Stadium, An Ideal For Living faves The G-O-D are back with a new double-A-side single.
The band, fronted by Dub Sex guitarist Chris Bridgett, have only been going for about 18 months, but were specially invited to open for the Roses by singer Ian Brown.
A childhood friend of Brown and John Squire, G-O-D drummer Simon “Funky Si” Wolstencroft was behind the kit with Brown’s solo band and his CV also includes a decade with The Fall and a stint in Freak Party with a pre-Smiths Andy Rourke and Johnny Marr.
Originally formed as a power punk trio with bassist Stuart Whitehead, the band recently expanded to a six-piece with the addition of Riven Seamarks on keyboards, and backing vocalists Laura and Ellern.
One of their most commercial sounding songs yet, the Byronic sounding Mad Bad and Dangerous to Know, features a Charlatans-style keyboard backing, enlivened by Bridgett’s siren-like sliding riffs.
Flip side track Goodbye is a much darker. sleazier, industrial, affair – all dirty guitars and angry chanted vocals – it’s really rather excellent actually.
Both tracks are available digitally or as a special edition CD, which is limited to 100 copies – all signed by the band.
