WAITING TO EXHALE – Kristin Hersh Unveils Rough Mix Of ‘Breathe In’ Ahead of New Album Release

Fresh from a sold out show at London’s Meltdown on Thursday (June 21) – Kristin Hersh is previewing a rough mix of Breathe In from her new solo album Possible Dust Clouds.

Beside performing at Meltdown,  the prolific singer-songwriter also took part in a discussion on mental health at the festival, which is being curated by The Cure‘s Robert Smith.

The panel discussion, replaced a planned set by Frightened Rabbit, whose frontman Scott Hutchison died last month in an apparent suicide.

A pulsating reverb-laden slow-burner  ‘Breath In’ , features Hersh’s old Throwing Muses bandmate Fred Abong on bass and her son Wyatt True  on drums.

Abong, who also played with Hersh’s step-sister Tanya Donelly in Belly, is supporting Hersh on the remaining dates of her UK tour.

Variously described as like a “ragged Replacements” and “Elliott Smith with balls,” Abong is due to release his own Homeless EP next month.

Possible Dust Clouds is Hersh’s  first new material since her 2016 double album Wyatt At The Coyote Palace, which, as she explained in a revealing An Ideal For Living  interview, was partly inspired by her autistic son’s fascination with coyotes which hung around a nearby abandoned building.

Still active with Throwing Muses, Hersh also fronts power trio 50FOOTWAVE, releasing the Bath White  mini album in the summer of 2016.

WAVE drummer Rob Ahlers backs her on LAX, the first single from the new album which will be released on Fire Records in October.

  • Hersh’s remainingUK dates start at Glasgow’s Mackintosh Church on June 24 and end at Ramsgate Music Hall on July 1. Tickets and information via  this link.
  • Possible Dust Clouds is set for release by Fire Records on October 5.
  • Fred Abong’s Homeless EP is due to release on July 29. Reserve a copy here.
