GREAT MOMENTS IN MUSIC – No21 – The Bushes Scream While My Daddy Prunes by The Very Things

No21 The Bushes Scream While My Daddy Prunes by The Very Things

In no particular order some of my favourite music moments. No21 The Bushes Scream While My Daddy Prunes by The Very Things.

Described by Wikipedia as ‘a Dadaist post-punk band from Redditch’ – The Very Things hovered around the fringes of the Psychobilly movement of the 1980s, although they had little in common with any of those bands.

Led by The Shend – an unlikely pop star given his balding head and genrous waistline – The Verys rose to prominence through the brilliant short film of The Bushes Scream….’, made by Channel 4 (see below).

With a delivery somewhere between Vincent Price and Bobby ‘Boris’ Pickett of The Monster Mash fame, The Shend recounts a nightmarish tale of his father’s disappearance while wielding a set of secateurs.

After the band split in 1988, The Shend pursued an acting career, his imposing presence making him the go to guy for hard nut villains.

He’s never coming ba-ack!’
