In no particular order some of my favourite music moments. No28 Suzanne By Leonard Cohen.
What the hell is going on with 2016?
The curse has struck again with news of the passing of one of the few true musical poets, Leonard Cohen.
First published as a poem, Suzanne was Cohen’s debut single from his album Songs of Leonard Cohen, released in 1967.
Cohen’s muse for the song was Suzanne Verdal, the then partner of sculptor Armand Vallancourt, who would serve him Constant Comment tea during his platonic visits to her Montreal apartment.
It’s emblematic of the Canadian’s genius for creating complex and beautiful images with an economy of words.
I’ve picked Suzanne, but I could really have chosen any number of songs from the canon of this humble, but towering figure of popular culture.
If you’re one of the few who don’t know his work, then please enjoy the video below, seek out his poems and recordings and spread the word.
