In no particular order some of my favourite music moments. No23 Yes by McAlmont and Butler.
Bernard Butler showed there was life after Suede by uniting with former Thieves singer David McAlmont on this stupendous 1995 single.
Paying homage to Phil Spector‘s Wall of Sound with its lavish production, the song was the first thing Butler wrote after falling out with former songwriting partner Brett Anderson.
McAlmont, who’d also recently separated acrimoniously from Thieves associate Saul Freeman, matches Butler’s instrumental theatrics with a soaring, soulful and defiant vocal performance.
They’d go on to make some other great records on and off, but nothing ever quite matched the magic of this their debut single.
