In no particular order some of my favourite music moments. No36 Unfinished Sympathy by Massive Attack. One of the most original and consistent acts to emerge from the Bristol-based trip hop movement, Massive Attack have made more than their fair share of extraordinary records. I’ve chosen Unfinished Sympathy because it’s a perfect single – dramatic, self-contained and featuring the soaring, powerhouse […]

Canadian-Ukrainian space pop duo Ummagma have unveiled the new video for their collaboration with Cocteau Twins co-founder Robin Guthrie. Taken from their forthcoming LCD EP, Lama, features Guthrie’s trademark soaring guitar arpeggios and sound washes over Shauna McLarnon‘s cool clear vocals.
Named after the iconic French deep sea diver, CousteauX are back from the depths with their first new album in more than a decade. Slimmed down from the original five-piece, frontman Liam McKahey and principal songwriter Davey Ray Moor have reunited as a duo, with an X added to their name to mark their return.
Credited with creating the distinctive gauzy, ethereal sound of the 4AD label, John Fryer is the true godfather of dark wave music. As a producer and engineer he’s worked with artists as diverse as The Cocteau Twins, Nine Inch Nails and Cradle of Filth.

The band, fronted by Dub Sex guitarist Chris Bridgett, have only been going for about 18 months, but were specially invited to open for the Roses by singer Ian Brown.
When Black Grape first came crashing onto the scene in the mid 1990s, they were a perfect fit for the new laddism in vogue at the time. They shot straight to the top of the UK charts with the magnificent It’s Great When You’re Straight… Yeah, but dropped off the radar after follow up Stupid Stupid Stupid.
In no particular order some of my favourite music moments. No34 Your Woman by White Town. Perhaps one of the unlikeliest UK No1s in musical history, Your Woman by White Town is the very definition of a one hit wonder. Though released on a major label, it had relatively little promotion and seemed to spread largely through word of mouth.
Having spent the first 10 minutes crushed beneath someone’s armpit in a packed and sweaty Scala, it’s painfully obvious Thurston Moore still has a massive following in London. They were still cramming them in well into the start of his set on a sultry June Thursday night and the former Sonic Youth man seemed pleased to be back in his […]
